Can I Over-Seal My House?

July 30, 2010 By Victor Serrao

Energy Star Appliances at Seaside Air Conditioning and HeatingWhile it is possible to seal a house too tightly, it is very unlikely in most older homes. A certain amount of fresh air is needed for good indoor air quality and there are specifications that set the minimum amount of fresh air needed for a house. If you are concerned about how tight your home is, hire an energy specialist to perform leakage tests using diagnostic tools and make sure all combustion appliances are operating properly. If your home is too tight, the energy specialist may recommend that a fresh air ventilation system be added to your HVAC system. Visit ENERGY STAR Home Sealing for more information.

Give Seaside Air Conditioning and Heating a call today! Coastal communities like Huntington Beach and Laguna Beach, as well as San Clemente, typify our beach cities that often comprise older, more established homes and neighborhoods. And newer areas, including Newport Coast, Newport Beach, Irvine in the middle of Orange County, and Laguna Niguel, Aliso Viejo, and Dana Point at the south end of Orange County, typify cities where a strong mix of new homes have been built in the past two decades. Old and new homes alike will benefit from a energy tune-up from Seaside!

Cooling Efficiency

July 30, 2010 By Victor Serrao

Energy-Saving Ideas at Seaside Air Conditioning and HeatingThe measure for the efficiency of air conditioners and heat pumps is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER), which compares cooling output to electrical consumption over a range of temperatures. The higher the SEER, the better the energy performance, the more you save.

Lennox has an Energy Savings Calculator on its website. Check it out! Just click on either the heating or cooling arrows, choose your state, then choose a SEER value on the blue screen. For example, for California, a SEER of 12 can save 17% yearly on your energy costs of operation, and potentially $385 over a 4-year period. Of course, those numbers are estimates, and much depends upon utility rates and hours of usage.

Call Seaside today! Or contact us via email to arrange for a free evaluation of your home, or our popular pre-season tune-up. Orange County’s coastal cities are blessed with comfortable temperatures and cool ocean breezes, but even a ocean-front town like San Clemente needs air conditioning during those hot summer days, especially at businesses and offices. And our beautiful, but toasty inland cities, including Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, Santa Margarita, and others, definitely benefit from efficient air conditioning units during those heavy use months when summer heat is at its highest.

And, or course, our Canyon Lake Office serves the Inland Empire. And there are few places that would stand to benefit more than the Inland Empire from efficient air conditioning during the extended hot weather that we experience each year in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Efficiency, energy-saving air conditioners equals BIG SAVINGS on your electric bills. Call us today to start saving $$$$.
